Summer Training Week 4

You should be emailing your mileage totals each  week to hillcrestrunning@hotmail.com.  Check the weekly mileage totals on the summer schedule for what you should have done to compare.  The most important mileage statistic is NO ZEROES! Rookies should have done about 20 miles.

Travel Forms and Summer Camp forms should have been turned in to Coach Olsen. Make that happen Monday if you haven't already.

Don't forget to sign up for the Sandy 4th of July 5K, you are running out of time.
Week 3

Monday - team run @ Hillcrest - (Evening runs continue for returning runners; check your summer schedule.)

Tuesday - individual/group runs - These runs are crucial to proper recovery and performance when the racing season starts. Don't cheat yourself.  Do core.  Use the exercises from practice and/or add your own.

Wednesday - pre-race on your own or in groups.  Check the schedule for mileage, rookies do the first year mileage.

Thursday - Sandy City 5K meet at 6:30 at the NW corner of Target (10130 S. State)

Friday - off or active rest

Saturday - individual/group runs - Do core.

Sunday - off

Wednesday - team run - Trail Run We leave Hillcrest to meet at the park and ride lot at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon to run the Little Cottonwood Trail.  Captains will organize carpools. You may meet us that the lot at 6:15 if you live close to the canyon.  If you are starting this week, make sure you have your travel forms turned in to Coach Olsen.

Friday - team run/travel varsity with Coach Olsen - JV at Dimple Dell trail

Saturday - individual/group runs

Sunday - off or active rest

Register for the Sandy City Classic July 4th 5K.  You may register in person at the Sandy Parks office or online.  Register before July 2 for the best price.

Rookies should have done 15 - 17 miles.

Week 2

Monday - team run @ Hillcrest - (Evening runs start for returning runners; check your summer schedule.)

Tuesday - individual/group runs - These runs are crucial to proper recovery and performance when the racing season starts. Don't cheat yourself.  Do core.  Use the exercises Jared taught you and/or add your own.

Summer Practice Dates

Don't forget you need to follow the printed schedule Coach Olsen handed out, but here is week one:

Monday - team run @ Hillcrest - intro to running and stretching

Tuesday - individual/group runs - Do Core!

Wednesday - team run Trail Run We leave Hillcrest to go to the park and ride lot at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon to run the Little Cottonwood Creek Trail.  Captains will organize carpools.  You may meet us at the park and ride lot at 6:15

Thursday - individual/group runs - Do Core!

Friday - team run - TBA

Saturday -  individual/group runs

Sunday - off or active rest

Cross-Country Season!

Get ready for the first practice Monday morning @ 5:45.

You should have your schedule, but look to the right for a link to a calendar.

Make sure you have a quality pair of running shoes, hydrate properly and eat enough good food to keep you going.

Ice is a friend to sore muscles.

Make sure you put in miles every day the schedule calls for it.  You should take one day off each week to let your body recuperate.  The schedule builds that day in on Sundays.  You may choose to do active rest. Active rest means you can do any activity but running.
