UHSTCA Indoor Meet

This is a crazy meet for me, so I don't get to watch all of you as much as I would have liked.  I did see Sara's 1600 where she ran a good race and gave herself a chance to win her heat by running a good race and being aggressive in the right spots.

I saw Luis after his 400 when he was very happy he won his heat.  He should have, I put him in with a much too slow seed time.  His 54.99 is an indoor school record, so I'm pretty excited about that going into the outdoor season.

I was able to watch the 4 X 800 relays since things had slowed down for me at that point.  The times were a little slower than I was thinking, but I like how everyone went out aggressively on all their legs.  That slowed some of the split times because it was a little too aggressive for some of you, but that is fine because the 800 is an aggressive race and when we get a little more base and some speed work in, you will be able to maintain off that aggressive pace and drop huge PRs once we hit outdoor. I think if we can run our best group at Davis or the UHSTCA outdoor meet, we have a shot at the school record on the boys side.

I didn't see any of the boys in the 1600, but I did like the times.  Connor nearly broke 5 in his first attempt at the 16, Jonathan must have started to figure out race breathing a little, because he dropped huge time off his first two meets, and Justin ran a decent time.  Bridger amazes me with how far he has come with a decent new PR that he will crush during outdoor.

I was proud of Cali and Megan for getting their first taste of high school track in a huge meet in events where I really couldn't help them out much because of how busy I was running the meet.

Kudos to Grace for showing up and trying to compete on a day she didn't feel well and getting another volunteer to the meet. And thanks to Alan for showing up and helping out even though he missed his event.

A huge thanks to the Cobabes and to John Guldner for their assistance in running the registration areas.  That is a huge job that I didn't have to worry about on Friday while I was getting the meet set up and off and running.

I have already posted our results on athletic.net.  You can find complete results on runnercard.com.

BYU Indoor Information

Registration for the BYU meet is on runnercard.  Each athlete will have to go on, make an account and register yourself for the meet.  Your parents will have to sign the waiver as part of registration.  As you register, make sure you include Hillcrest as your school so I can pick up our packet on Friday night.  Unfortunately, the set up of registration requires you to pay online as part of your registration. Keep the receipt so we can do reimbursement from camp fees later.

All of the information for the meet can be found here.  This includes a link to the registration page on runnercard, meet schedules for both days, a map to the field house, and a sample schedule of when events have started in the past.  The meet is starting an hour earlier this year, so hopefully that moves the schedule up close to an hour for the finish time.  In case they don't get their feedback loop fixed on their map link, here are google directions to Smith FieldHouse from Hillcrest.

Let me know which events you are registering for so I can get an idea of our total meet fees.

Also note that spectator will be charged $5 for this meet.  Parking is NW of the field house.  The parking lot can be accessed from University Ave. or Canyon Road.

Indoor Track Practice Tuesday Jan. 12

Remember we won't meet today because of a meeting both Allred and I have to attend.  If you have access to a gym or weights at home, do the same type of workout we normally do with the emphasis on squats, deadlifts and power cleans.

If you do not have access to weights, do body weight exercises.  step ups on boxes or stairs, body weight squats, lunges (making sure your knee stays over your foot), mountain climbers, pushups, calf raises-heal drops, lots of core.

Distance the workout is 5 - 6 miles easy recovery pace.  After the run do core.  Remember if I get out of the meeting in time, we will do a circuit in the fitness room.  If not, do the normal body weight strength routine.
