Course: 3 miles on dirt trails, spikes are recommended.

Awards: Trophies will be awarded to the Varsity Girls & Boys race champions and to the top two Varsity Boys and Girls teams. Medals will be awarded 1-10 in each JV race and 2-15 in the Varsity races.

From Salt Lake City, take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City. Take right turn on State Road 113 (100 South) to Midway. Take a left on 113 in Midway, and travel two miles. Turn right just before the railroad tracks and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park, Soldier Hollow is about 53 miles from downtown Salt Lake City.

Region IV Pre-Region Time Trials

The pre-region meet will be at Cottonwood Complex with the girls starting at 5:30 and the boys at 6:00.

Cottonwood Complex is at approximately 4200 S. 1300 E. The start and finish will be near the southeast corner of the park.

BYU Autumn Classic

The 2009 BYU Autumn Classic Cross Country Invitational promises to be a great event again! The meet will be held on the BYU Campus Cross Country Course. The course starts on the grass warm-up field to the north of the track and finishes on the track. It includes the warm-up field, the outfield of the baseball side of Miller Park and the grass corridor between the track and Miller Park. The course has a number of excellent features. It is all grass and track surface, with 70 - 80% of the course on grass. All pathways near the baseball field are covered so that competitors can wear spikes. The finish of the races will be at the main finish line on the track in front of the main grandstand. The features of the complex include: seating for 3000 spectators with a view of 70% of the course, the main scoreboard, sound system, full bathrooms and concessions.

5K Course Map


The collegiate races will feature the 4-time National Champion Brigham Young University Cougars. They will face UCLA, Idaho State University, and San Bernardino Valley College.

The top high school teams in the state have again been invited to participate. All high school races will be held on the same course as the collegiate women.

Races - If the races become too large, we will attempt to split the races by classification.

Awards - Individual awards will be given to the top 30 finishers in each of the 8 races. Team awards will be presented to the top three teams in the Varsity races and the top two teams in the Collegiate, JV and Frosh/Soph races.

Timing - Timing and results by Rocky Mountain RunnerCard. Each finisher will receive a personal RunnerCard at the end of the chute. Results will be posted at the meet and web posted that same day.

Spikes - Spikes are allowed but limited to 1/4" pyramids to protect the track. No pin spikes or Christmas trees.

Admission - Entrance to the Autumn Classic is $3 for adults, $2 for students with ID, and children 5 and under are free. Any youth athlete age 14 and under that wears their track or cross country uniform is admitted free!

Summer Cross-Country Schedule

We will be meeting as a team Monday through Friday in the mornings. On most days we will be meeting on the lawn near the gym doors at Hillcrest. There will be some travel days where we will meet at the site of the run.

We will meet at 6:50 am from June 8th to June 24th and then again from August 6th until the first day of school. From June 25th to August 5th, we will be meeting at 6:00 am.

I have added a link to a calendar with our workouts. You need to add a second afternoon/evening run on those days with a second workout listed. I have listed general workouts, but refer to the schedule Coach Olsen gave you for mileage totals.

Track Party!

The 2009 track party will be Monday June 1st, 5:00 pm at Crestwood Park. Burgers, dogs and beverage will be provided. Bring a dessert or chips.

The bus for day two of the state meet is now leaving Hillcrest @ 7:00 am.

BYU Invitational 2009

We have another state qualifier with our girls 4 X 400 relay team running a 4:03.37 to take third and earn a return trip to the BYU track stadium in two weeks.

Kyle Nielsen took second place in the javelin throw with a season best 169' throw.

Schedule Change Again

The 9th/10th meet scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled to allow tri-meets to be made up.

We will be traveling to Jordan to compete against Alta and Jordan.

Taylorsville Invitational 4/18

Congratulations to our fifth state qualifier Matt Augustyn who will join Ryan and Kyle in the javelin at state.

Our boys finished 5th and the girls 13th with the highlight performance being the girls 4 X 400 relay dropping 12 seconds.

Alta Invitational Boys results

We have two more state qualifiers after today's competition with Wade Wickhamshire's 12' 6 winning pole vault and Kyle Nielsen's 3rd place throw of 162' 6 were good enough to punch their tickets to state.

We had other outstanding performances highlighted by Jason Lynch winning the 1600 for the second consecutive year.

The boys placed 3rd behind Riverton and Alta.

The meet scheduled for 4/7 at Jordan has been canceled so that team can participate in the Alta Inviational.

A make up date will be announced later.

Congratulations to Taylor Samsel for qualifying for state in the high jump. Our 4 X 100 relay team of Korral Koehler, Courtney Wilson, Amy Nelson and Makenna Lehrman are Alta Invitational Champs.

Alta Invitational Postponed

Due to weather conditions, the Alta Invitational has been moved to next week. The girls will now compete on Monday and the boys on Tuesday. The meet will start both days at 3:30. There is a possibility that some of the throwing events will be held at another location. Details will be posted when available.

Track Disclosure Statement

Fees: $50 participation fee There may be some entrance fees for invitational meets.

Eligibility: 2.0 GPA as outlined in UHSAA guidelines

Attendance: As with any other sport, attendance at practice is required. If you must miss practice for any reason notify one of the coaches before practice. You must also notify your event coach if you will be late.

Practice: Practice will be held Monday - Friday at 3:00 until approximately 4:30. You need to be seated in the stadium at 2:55. Practice times will vary by events and schedules. All practices will be held at the Hillcrest track, weather permitting.

Meet Participation: All athletes will be required to participate in home meets. Coaches will determine who participates in away and invitational meets. Coaches will inform athletes who will be competing the day before each meet. Athletes will compete in at least two events in each meet they are eligible to attend.

Transportation: Athletes will ride the bus to and from track meets. Athletes may ride home from meets with parents, but need to check in with the head coach before they leave.

Uniforms: Uniforms will be issued before the first region meet. Participation fees must be paid before a uniform will be issued.

Team Gear: Team sweats and tee shirts will be made available for purchase. Some uniform shorts may be available for purchase.

Shoes: In order to prevent injuries, athletes will need to obtain running shoes. Track spikes are also encouraged for competition.

Clothing: The weather during track can vary a great deal. Athletes need to be prepared for all weather conditions. Athletes should be prepared with clothing suitable for hot, cold and wet weather each day. A good supply of sunscreen would also be recommended.

Meets: Captains will lead the team in a team lap and stretch before the meet begins. Each athlete will be responsible for warming up before his/her individual events.

Parents will be asked to volunteer as officials for our home meets to help the meet run smoothly. This could include making lane assignments, timing, recording times, or judging an event.

Forms & Consent: All athletes must all necessary forms on file with the school before competition begins. This includes the tryout checklist, the athlete contract, parent consent forms and physical forms for new athletes.

Lettering: Lettering will be based on a points system based on meet performances. Ten points must be earned to gain a letter.

Fund-raising: We need to raise funds to pay for things like meet entrance fees, equipment, end of year awards and the track barbecue.

We will have two forms of fund-raising, donations and a 12-hour run. Any family or company who would like to donate funds will be welcomed. For the 12-hour run, athletes will raise pledges per mile based on the total miles the team runs.

Track Meeting

For those that missed the announcements or fliers posted around the school, the track meeting is at 3:00pm in the cafeteria on the 18th. There will be a second meeting at 3:30 for freshman.

UHSTCA Indoor Meet Info

1. The cost to enter the meet is $4.00 per athlete for the first event and $2.00 for each additional. Please be honest about this. Registration will be done at the meet. Spectators will be charged $3.00 per individual. We will bullpen all races. All field event participants must check in at Kearns High. All throwing implements must be weighed in and verified at Kearns High before their event begins.
2. Payment must be made for all athletes entered. Athletes will be stamped upon payment of fee and this will allow them to compete.
3. All athletes in running events must report to the Clerking Area (bullpen) at first call. Athletes will be scratched from the event on second call and heat and lane assignments will be made at that time.
4. The first running event will start at 9:00 am. Events will follow the order listed. There will be no time schedule- times listed are just guesses. Athletes must pay close attention to the calls as they are made.
5. Field events will start at the time listed. Long jump and pole vault will be held at the ice oval on Friday evening. High jump, shot put, and the weight throw will be held at Kearns High on Friday evening.
6. Medals will be awarded the top three finishers in individual events and the first place relay team.
7. Six places will be scored for team competition.
8. Spikes (3/16") are allowed. Shoes must be brought to the Clerking Area where they will be checked.
9. Spikes can only be used on the track. There will be a $50 fine for any athlete found wearing their spikes in areas off the track.
10. Warmup is allowed on the track as long as it does not cause a problem with an event.

WSU Indoor Results

Saturday was a pretty good day for our adventurous few.

Jason Lynch won the 3200 in 9:59 and Josh Kennedy set a 16 second pr with a 10:35.

Matt Lynch also ran the 3200 with a good time of 10:54. Derek Croft joined in for the 1600 and 4 X 800 relay.
