2018 Track Disclosure

2018 Hillcrest Track & Field Disclosure

Practice: Practices will be at the Hillcrest track stadium every weekday starting at 2:45. We will meet in the bleachers above the start/finish line each day for a short meeting and then will have practice in the appropriate areas of the track stadium based on event groups. Although some event groups will go later, most athletes will be done with practice before 5:00. We will move inside for practice for inclement weather. Practice attendance is mandatory. We will work around, within reason, with other extracurricular and athletic activities. Communication is key. If you are going to miss practice, you must notify your event coach in advance. Meet participation is determined by practice attendance.

Fees & Costs: The participation fee for Track & Field is $60.  The spirit pack will be $65 which will consist of a team back pack, team shirt, and uniform shorts.  The girls will be charged an additional $35 for the uniform singlet.  If athletes already have the uniform, the cost is lower.  We will also have team hoodies for $32.  Black jogger pants, running tights, and compression shorts may also be ordered on demand.

Eligibility:  2.0 GPA for both 2nd and 3rd quarters as outlined in UHSAA guidelines

Meet Participation:  All athletes will participate at region meets, provided they meet attendance requirements.  Coaches will determine who participates in invitational meets.  Coaches will inform athletes who will be competing prior to each meet.  Athletes will compete in multiple events per meet as directed by their event coach.

Transportation:  Transportation will be provided for the team by Canyons District bussing. Athletes are required to ride the bus to and from track meets.

Shoes:  In order to help prevent injuries during training, athletes will need to obtain proper running shoes.  Track spikes or other event shoes are also encouraged for competition.

Clothing: The weather during track can vary a great deal.  Athletes need to be prepared for all weather conditions.  Athletes should be prepared with clothing suitable for hot, cold and wet weather each day.   A good supply of sunscreen is also recommended.

Injuries: We will have TOSH trainers available to treat injuries and provide a rehab plan.  All injured must athletes must be cleared by our trainers before they can compete.  More serious injuries may need additional medical care.

Volunteers: Running a track meet requires many people. Most of the schools in our region don’t have enough coaches to run all the events.  We will need parents to help run all field events.  We will need help pulling tape and marking jumps/throws, and judging the event.  We will need help at the finish line.  We may also run a concession stand if we have sufficient help.

Forms & Consent:  All sport registration is now done online at registermyathlete.com.  Up to date physicals are required each calendar year. UHSAA physical forms are to be downloaded from the site and must be submitted to the main office or AD before you are eligible to compete in meets.

Lettering:  Lettering will be based on a point system from meets as well as coach’s discretion.

Fundraising:  We need to raise funds to pay for things like meet entrance fees, equipment, end of year awards and the end of season team party.  All athletes are required to participate in the fundraising efforts. Donations will also be accepted.

Internet:  Meet schedules, results and announcements will be available online at www.hillcrestrunningco.com. Information will also be posted on social media on the Hillcrest Running Co. Facebook group and Google+ community and on twitter @HillcrestTrack. The meet schedule, meet results, school records and lettering points can also be found on athletic.net. If you take photos during meets, send them to me or post them on Google photos on Google +.

Contact Info: You may ask questions via email to either  scott.stucki@gmail.com or  coachtalford@gmail.com.     Coaches may provide their phone numbers to their event groups.

MLK Day Practice

We're doing a trail run on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.  We will meet at the Orson Smith Trailhead at 1 pm.

The preferred option is then to carpool a bit more than a mile up the road to the East Bench Trailhead.  It is a bit of a rough road, so higher profile vehicles may be necessary.

BYU Indoor Meet information

The BYU Indoor meet will be held on Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th.  Field events and the 2 mile run will be on Friday with the remainder of the meet on Saturday.

The meet is held in the Smith Fieldhouse on the BYU Campus. Parking is just north of the indoor practice facility.

From the meet site: Registration - The impact of legal liabilities and litigation has reached into our event. All registration must be completed by the parents of each participant. Be sure to enter the name of your school in the team box. The waiver must be agreed-to and payment must be made at the time of registration. Registration will only be accepted online. There will be no registration at the meet! If you do not pre-register online before the meet, you will not be able to compete! We apologize for the inconvenience. Such are the results of the legal world that we now live in.

I'm still planning on registering and paying team fees for our athletes, but in order to do that, I will need parent emails, work and home phone and last 4 of athlete social.  The deadline is Friday morning at 8 am.  I am planning on completing registration Thursday evening. I am sending a copy of the waiver home with the athletes.
